A Tennessee woman with a TN concealed carry permit is facing up to 3 years in prison after asking to check her concealed handgun before entering the 9/11 memorial in New York after after reading "No firearms" sign posted at the memorial's entrance.

New York does not honor any other states concealed carry permits. Before you travel outside of your state make sure that you check with each states State Patrol and/or Attorney Generals office to make sure that your permit will be honored in that state. She is now facing a lengthy prison sentence, and possibly losing her 2nd Amendment rights for committing a "gun crime". Right now there in Washington DC H.R.822 - National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011. National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011 is under consideration. This law if enacted would require states to honor other states concealed carry permits, in the same way they currently honor a drivers license from other states. Until this important piece of legislation passes, it is imperative that each concealed carry permit holder do their homework each time they travel out of state.
